Why, Arizona
Still at Coyote Howl East. Feeling restless. Hmmmm. There are loads of folks here, mostly older than me, very friendly, but they seem to like being in official campground type settings. Fair enough. Being out in various places, without any supports is for some, and having loads of amenities is for others. Whatever a person's comfort level - there is something out here in terms of camping or living in an RV type situation.
I joined a group who were doing sewing and other crafty type things. We all chatted about our travels and previous careers. I worked on prepping a bunch of clothes for my tea towel hangy thingies.
Once back at Mobius, the Nomadic Handyvan, and it was time to fire up the generator I started sewing the tabs for the tea towel hangy thingies. I have been making these for a year now. People seem to really like them. I have gotten some very good reviews and reactions for folks who've bought them from me.
Another very large cactus!

I found the local shower. Nice clean facilities, all though it is a shared space with other folks using the toilets. Their rates for a 7 minute shower is exceptional - $0.25. Yup, I walked into that shower with 12 quarters in my pocket just in case. I left with $2.75. After that, I took my laundry to the laundry room. Again I felt the prices were very reasonable. The only thing that I found freaky, was on the doors is a sign that asks people to make sure the exterior doors were closed properly as there are snakes in the area. I better not tell my sister about that.
My restlessness is peaking. I got a hold of a fellow RVer and asked they were interested in celebrating Solstice with me. They said sure! Great! I will pack up and head west to their camp tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I have continued to sew my tea towel hangy thingies - and discovered I am out of snaps. Good thing I am heading to Yuma tomorrow.
A set of my completed tea towel hangy thingies!
I cleaned up Mobius, the Nomadic Handyvan and packed up all my gear. By 9 pm, everything was packed, my propane tanks have been turned off, all the hoses have been bled, all my garbage gathered and ready for disposal and the same for my grey water bucket. I climbed into bed, thinking about hitting the road as early as possible. This is probably one of the best things about being nomadic. Try something out, and if you discover it's not to your liking, pack up and move somewhere else. Easy peasy.

And true to form, I didn't sleep as deep as normal because of the excitement of hitting the road again. I was up at 7 just as the sun was rising. Camp was still very quiet. I dumped my grey water, disposed of my garbage and drove across the highway to the gas station and filled both the gas tank and my gerry can.
I drove 10 minutes north of Why to Ajo, and I remembered I want to come back here even for a day or two. There is a 3 Nation Market I want to check out.
After driving through Ajo, I remembered that there is a border check station. As I drove up to the border security officer, I handed him my passport and my Status Card. He took a look at my identification and asked what I was hauling, I explained that the truck was a modified motorhome. He nodded and handed back my papers and I was heading north to Gila Bend.
I got to Yuma early, picked up a few things for a special meal and headed north on Highway 95. It's the highway that goes up to Quartzsite. Just a few miles up the highway I turned off onto some BLM camping and found my friend.
A view of VFW - BLM free camping. *VFW = veterans of foreign wars
She had picked an excellent location, behind some mounds of dirt that acted like a sound barrier and a border.....the space was kind of an alcove only 4 rigs including mine could fit in the area, and the man next to us was friendly.
We took the dogs for a good walk!
A cactus in bloom.
Hmmm. How to get over there!!!!!
As I unpacked my supplies and set up camp, I discovered that I did not buy the snaps I need for my tea towel hangy thingies. Darn!
My camping friend and I decided to take her car into Yuma and do a bit more shopping! I was able to get my snaps after all.

I posted a picture of the back of Mobius, the Nomadic Handyvan and a friend commented that my two propane tanks looked a bit like a snowman. I took that comment a set further! Presenting "Tankie - the wannabe snowman" Just trying to get into the spirit of the holidays!
I thought today was Solstice, oh well. Lynne and I decided today would be a good day to have a special meal together. She cooked herself a beyond meat burger and I fried myself a ribeye steak and roasted some potatoes and carrots. We talked about a proposal I sent in to the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous (RTR). I want to talk about Mobius, the Nomadic Handyvan and how she was built completely while I was on the road. It was a very good day.
Saturday, December 21, 2019 = Winter Solstice
Happy New Year!
Lynne and I drove into Yuma to check out a couple of stores. We weren't really on a mission to buy things - just finding out about stores that cater to RV living. We went to Wally World and Southwest Exchange Superstore for RVs. We also found places to buy water and for grey water dumping and what not. Always good to know where they are even if I don't use them - good to pass information along to others.
I decided to treat myself and buy a mobile hotspot through Verizon....best decision ever! While out here, boondocking and camping I no longer have to run to town and find a restaurant with free wifi to update my blog.

Tomorrow I will be heading back to Quartzsite to join a caravan organized by Homes on Wheels Alliance, aka (HOWA). So, today I want to finish off a couple of little projects. I installed the last piece of insulation to my ceiling. I designed this one in a way that I can drop it down and have fresh air flow through and daylight via the fiberglass roof. I have noticed a big difference in the amount of heat that stays inside the rig now that it is effectively enclosed. I wouldn't say it was airtight or whatever - I still have a few gaps where the garage wall connects to the box walls.
The other little project - running water!
After a quick dinner, I started to pack up my gear, organizing things as I went along. Still trying to find the best place for tools, gear and whatnot. I think I might figure it out just before I sell Mobius - lol!

I got up early, said see ya later to Lynne and headed back to Yuma to get some gas and grub before hitting the road. I travelled up Highway 95 just past Quartzsite to Hi-Jolly BLM. As I was signing in I met Bobby who also signed up for this caravan. We couldn't find the rest of the participants, so we found a fairly good place to camp. I figure we will look around tomorrow and see if any of the others are around. Chatted with a few of the campers in our vicinity - very seems to have the same goals - camp for free and enjoy every day!
