Happy New Year Folks! Make it a great one!
Over the course of the holidays I made some new friends. We all returned to a BLM campsite that is mostly unknown and underused. Which is great for us with 7 rigs, and we could relax without loads of others around us. It was also easier on the 4 dogs in camp - they were able to play and chill because they all know each other.
Even though this is a beautiful campsite - the weather made things rather uncomfortable - the wind blew through stealing all the warmth. Many of us ran heaters to keep our rigs warmer. All day the wind blew and the goal was to sit around the campfire and chat about the previous year and the new one. To make this even possible, we moved the rigs around, using Mobius, the Nomadic Handyvan and two other vans as a windbreak. It definitely helped, but the wind was bitterly cold. The sun set early, 5pm and by 6:30 many of us had returned to our rigs to warm up. I ventured back out with Stan and Debra at 11 to ring in the New Year.
our vehicle windbreak!
The last sunset of 2019! Beautiful!

Giselle and I decided that the weather was a game changer - the wind had slowed but was still very cold. We, the whole group, chatted about different places we could go. I suggested Anza-Borrego, and I even checked the weather. Giselle was like absolutely. We kept talking about places. I remembered the spot I had camped with another friend just north of Yuma. Stan, Tim, Giselle and I found our way back to the exact same spot I had camped before - VFW-BLM in the little alcove. Debra and Robert went to a casino to visit with some friends, before looking for an ideal spot with great cell reception. And that's what it's like out here boondocking.....random people converge, merge and disperse after a while.
Once I parked my rig, I vowed not to move it until absolutely necessary. Giselle agreed. This little alcove with the highway and train tracks to the east, mounds of dirt separating us from the rest of the boondockers to the south and north. While it's not as isolated and beautiful as the high desert we had been camping at, it's close to Yuma, it's private (well as private as we can get). There's a path into the mountains for great hikes and the weather has been amazing.

Stan and Tim found their way here and have set up their camp spots. I've have chosen to have a few days of doing very little - a little holiday if you will. I have no pressing construction with Mobius, the Nomadic Handyvan, and at the moment I am not feeling exceptionally creative. A few slow days is exactly what the doctor ordered!
Okay, the lack of creativity lasted until it was supper time. This is my fusion meal - Korean Beef with Bulgogi Sauce, Japanese Ramen noodles, and stir fried mushrooms, carrots and garlic. It was delicious. Time for some more!

I neglected to tell you all, that on December 27, 2019 I was informed that the RTR (Rubber Tramp Rendezvous) accepted my proposal to be a presenter. I will be talking about Mobius, the Nomadic Handyvan and the build that I did on the road. I am really excited about attending the RTR and meeting more nomads. I have been writing out my presentation - I don't want it to be too technical and I want it to be enjoyable, accessible and fun. It has taken me several days of going back through FB posts, and my blog to list out everything I did and how I did the build. I am going to get one of my travelling companions to proof it - and tell me where I need more or less information and if it is accessible.
I finally had to pull out my printer and set it up. I am also redesigning my running water - I will purchase the few pieces of hardware to make it permanent.

Another relaxing day. Found a skoolie youtube channel and have been streaming the videos. I like the couple who have taken a 2001 school bus, gutted it and make it into their home on the road. Each day I stream a few of their 7-15 minute videos. They date back to 2017, and this couple are still on the road. I have 3 years of catch up to do. I will link in their youtube channel for you.

My travelling companion knows how much I love tacos. She made me some delicious shrimp tacos - this is the first time I have ever tried them.....omc!!!
My facial expression lies.....I am thrilled to have shrimp tacos! They were so good.
The food coming out of our van kitchens is amazing.....

I am started to receive inquiries about helping out folks. So for fun today I made myself a flagpole that will be noticeable wherever I park! And again, just a chill day. G and I did take her wonder pup for a good walk.
This road that we are taking leads to a open pit quarry, we walked a fair distance. There are loads of cacti, and even some cougar tracks. Considering how close we are to the highway and the quarry.
On Yukon Time! Like there is any other kind of time to be on!

I have finalized my design for the running water. There are a few components I need to get before I can install everything. I am kinda excited about this.
G and I went to Yuma on a supply run. I went to a Harbour Freight - unfortunately not the greatest store - had some components that I will need but there was so much missing from their current inventory. Later this week I will go to Tractor Supply and if necessary to Home Depot. I have also put in an order with Amazon.
While in Walmart I found a porta-potty made by Thetford. I am considering purchasing this cassette toilet designed for camping and RV living. I have heard some good things about them. I will get back to you about what I eventually decide.
Well, tomorrow I am off to a birthday party in the desert! See ya down the road!
