Week 13 November 19 – 265, 2019
Tuesday November 19, 2019, Las Vegas
Arrive yesterday to my cousin Kellen’s boondocking site near
Las Vegas and the Nellis Air Force Base.
Got to listen to the flyboys doing their near landings and other
manoeuvres. Those jets are pretty loud, but I was so tired they didn’t even
register. We were up early – thanks to time zone changes. We went for an early breakfast at a local
diner, the food wasn’t too bad. Then back to camp to see what supplies we are
going to need to install my solar power system.
We went to a couple of RV supply shops. The first was a place where
they actually store RVs inside…wow! We actually got a tour of one of the ½
million dollar class A RVs….personally I like my moving van house….Next we went
to another RV supply store and they actually had some inventory. We scored a lithium battery for Kellen and I
bought his Renogy gel battery for my system.
We both did well with bargains and finds.
Eventually we got back to camp, and started putting things
together. The manager at the RV store
gave me a plugin that would connect my solar panel briefcase to the
battery. It was amazing to watch Kellin
take the components and connect them in no time. I know I could have done it myself, but it
would have taken me quite a while and with a lot of swearing.
The weather closed in on us, it was cold, raining and really
windy. I went to bed with the wind rocking me truck. The Air Force flyers even
stopped earlier than last night.

Wednesday November 20, 2019 Las Vegas to Lake Havasu City
I got up early, before sunrise, and discovered I had a bit
of a leak on the roof where the fiberglass and metal meet. I decided to just
jump in the driver’s seat and head towards my friend Lynne’s camp in
California.
I got to Lake Havasu City, where the original London Bridge
is located, and I felt that this was far enough drive today. That fast and long
run from Oklahoma was catching up with me. I hung out in the local Walmart,
then found a boondocking site near Lake Havasu City, got comfortable and went
to sleep pretty early. Definitely a
quiet day for me.

I got up early, found a Love’s Truck Stop and had a shower!
It felt so good to wash and I definitely felt more relaxed. The solar power system that my cousin set up
for me, works wonderfully. So grateful for his help. After the shower and buying some grub I made
my way to Lynne’s camp. Her and her
friend had relocated to a new spot in the same general location. I had a few
detours to follow as the recent storm had flooded and damaged one highway
route, and another spot was closed. But I eventually made my way to Salton Sea
City, where my GPS directed me to follow a road into the hills. I drove up, looking around at the beauty of
it all, and keeping an eye out for Lynne’s rig. Eventually I saw her class C
and her toad which is a smart car. I had
made it without getting lost or any struggles.

Salton Sea Sun Rise
Salton Sea Sun Rise
Lynne’s friend Doug took us to Borrego Springs to a Farmer’s
Market. I spoke to one person about his jerky supplies…I eventually bought a
couple of pouches of mild beef jerky which I shared with Doug. Then I attempted
to have a conversation with a women who was selling clothing – she was rather
rude. I guess she just sells clothing –
she doesn’t design or make them herself.
After the tour through Borrego Springs we stopped at the
local library which had recently moved into a new building. It was gorgeous and
the librarian I spoke to was quite enthusiastic with my adventures.

I stayed at the camp today, I want to finally get my sink
installed and maybe see if I could get my sewing stuff started up.
And that is exactly what I did. The sink installation was
easy with the exception of the drain system….I still have to finish tightening
the drain but it is usable – I put a basin the sink for now. I was able to cook
a meal and clean up without any issues. It’s almost like being in the Tiny
House in Ross River, YT.
The solar power seems to be working well, I will have to
replace the inverter I bought as this one is noisy and sounds terrible when I
turn it on. I am going to be ordering a Renogy Inverter….my whole system is
Renogy with the exception of Solar Panels which are Goal Zero.
I set up my sewing machine, which I am running off the
generator for now, and I made myself a “tea towel hangy thingy”. I have made
over 50 of them and this one is for me!
First plan where the sink is going to be installed, then trace the template and cut a hole into a perfectly good counter top.Next install some funky taps...yeah there is no running water...yet!
Looks good, eh?
I finally own a LaDue's Creation tea towel hangy thingy!!! Wow!
Sunday November 24, 2019
Both Lynne and Doug went off to do some errands and
business. I stayed back and watched over Lynne’s two dogs, and I finally
installed the second propane hose. I now have a dedicated cook stove hose and a
one for the heater. I had started making
some plans for finishing off the interior of the truck box.
It has been really enjoyable staying in one place for
several days. Originally I was planning to head to Slab City, but the most
recent news I have been getting is that there has been an influx of people
dealing with addictions, thefts, and other nonsense that now it makes sense to
hang out with Lynne and Doug.
The RTR is going to be held near Parker Arizona, and
participants will have to find their own camping spaces unlike other years when
attendees could camp in the same space where the seminars were being held. Lucky for me, I will probably travel with
Lynne and Doug so I won’t have to pack up everything every day to attend the
seminars and meet with other RVers.
Monday November 25, 2019 Indio, CA
I left camp with my rig today as I am picking up some lumber, and supplies in a town about 60 kms north of camp. My tasks included getting some wood for the propane tank locker, a agm battery for my cooler and other random bits like screws and hardware.
